Coemar Infinity Wash XL lights

DESCRIPTION:

Sunrise, Florida (November 17th, 2008) -  After an 8-year stretch, Columbia Records’ rock regals AC/DC are back in black:  Their long-awaited Black Ice World Tour surely shimmers and shakes us all night long, with Coemar Infinity Wash XL lights calling the conductor cues.

According to co-lighting designer Dave Hill , the theme of this tour was “driven by AC/DC’s new album Black Ice, and its first track, Rock ‘n’ Roll Train.  The stage was designed with this in mind,” he explains, “and the 5 curved trusses represent the roof beams of a railway station.”

Its no wonder that first on the list of gear (supplied by Upstaging Lighting & Transport) were Coemar Infinity Wash XL lights.  The rig, preprogrammed at Upstaging, incorporated 5 x 100 feet wide arched, custom-fabricated trusses which configure to form a curved array of lights.

The setup included 59 sections of Upstaging’s patented Hud Truss.  The Infinitys, along with most of the other moving lights, are permanently mounted in the 10 foot sections of truss.  Specifically-tailored hinges maintain the exact curve at each locale.

“For this series of concerts,” states Hill, “I used the Coemar Infinity Wash XL lights for their power and ability to create energy without moving or strobing the lights.”  He uses 16 Infinity Wash XLs on each of the trusses 1-4, with another 12 on the floor “for more beams and energy.”

With superior brightness to their name, Coemar Infinity Wash XL lights offer an effects wheel for creating texture and aerial effects with wash light (exclusive Coemar patent), a ground breaking new color mix system able to achieve CMY and RGB colors (CMY-s, exclusive Coemar patent), and narrow to wide zoom ranges (5-84 degrees total) in one unit.

Various lense options (including a zoom kit 6-36 degrees for extra brightness, as well as PC pens for an ACL type beam) are available for the Infinity Wash XL lights.  Electronically adjustable lamp power (700 W to 1450 W) and a beam shaper rotating and indexing at 360 degrees (exclusive Coemar patent) are also included.

Hill maintains that very early on, he and fellow lighting designer Patrick Woodroffe had decided that this show “should be a little less hectic than the last one, and the effects wheel within the Infinity allows me to do that.  The split rotating beam,” he says, “creates energy just with the beam movement.”

Hill knows a sure thing when he sees one:  “The Coemar Infinity Wash XL lights worked perfectly for the job!”

Ron Schilling served as crew chief.
